Increasing access to STI care through innovations in diagnostics

At the 25th International Union Against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI) World Congress, an interactive panel on increasing access to sexually transmitted infections through innovations in diagnostics was held. The interactive panel discussion with experts from around the world, brings diverse perspectives from academia, patient care, the laboratory, and public health sectors. The panellists shared their insights and experiences with diagnostics and STI care innovations, including self-collection of samples at home and in the clinic, emphasising patient privacy and comfort; outreach and community engagement to build trust, reduce stigma and tailor services; and challenges experienced within different healthcare systems and clinical settings. The panellists included: Dr Barbara Van Der Pol, University of Alabama, Birmingham, AL, USA; Professor Jason Ong, Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Melbourne, Australia; Associate Professor Angela Kelly-Hanku, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia; and Dr Po-Yu Liu, Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan.
