Shaping the future of Hepatitis C diagnosis: the role of HCV Ag-Ab dual assays

March 28, 2025 Bullet Article

In this session of a Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) webinar, Dr Ashish Kumar, Senior Consultant Hepatologist, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, speaks on the role of HCV Ag-Ab dual assays within HCV diagnosis for patients.

Dr Kumar introduces and emphasises the HCV Ag-Ab dual assay’s critical role in reducing the HCV burden and linking patients to care, highlighting that the core antigen can serve as a surrogate marker for HCV RNA in diagnosis and treatment initiation. He also pointed out that immunocompromised patients often have low or undetectable antibody levels, making them highly susceptible to HCV infection – a cohort that would significantly benefit from HCV Ag-Ab dual assay screening.
