COVID-19 and the heart: experiences from the frontline

On 17 Apr 2020, the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology (APSC) hosted a webinar on the interplay between the COVID-19 pandemic and cardiology. The webinar, which was endorsed by the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy and supported by Roche Diagnostics, attracted nearly 500 participants from across Asia and around the world.

The webinar was moderated by Dr Jack TAN, Deputy Head of Cardiology and Director of the Coronary Care Unit at the National Heart Centre in Singapore. Following a short introduction, it included presentations from two clinicians on the frontlines of the epidemic:

  • Dr Ning ZHOU – Deputy Chief Physician and Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Tongji Hospital, a teaching hospital affiliated with Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China
  • Dr Li Min LING – Senior Consultant, Infectious Diseases at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases in Singapore

In addition to the two presentations, the webinar also included a panel discussion in which the moderator and the two presenters were joined by Dr Ho LAM, a Consultant in the Department of Medicine and Geriatrics at Tuen Mun Hospital in Hong Kong; and Dr Koji HASEGAWA, Director of the Division of Translational Research, National Hospital Organisation, Kyoto Medical Centre.
