In the first 2025 issue of the Value of Diagnostics series, Prof Gu Bing, Director of the Guangdong Center for Clinical Laboratory at Guangdong Provincial Peopleās Hospital, shares strategies to enhance disease classification accuracy and medical resource efficiency under DRG/DIPs payment systems. By integrating digital tools like the Clinical Value Navigator, the lab aligns testing protocols with clinical guidelines, offering intelligent test recommendations that reduce redundancy and missed diagnoses. Stratified testing strategies based on disease severity ensure high-priority patients receive timely and appropriate care, while automated workflows and smart tools boost efficiency and reduce turnaround time.
Prof Gu emphasises the labās transformation from a data provider to a clinical decision-making partner. The lab ensures testing aligns with real-world clinical needs through regular multidisciplinary discussions, feedback mechanisms, and close collaboration with clinical departments, especially in managing complex diseases. Intelligent alerts for critical conditions, combined testing for tumour typing, and proactive communication have strengthened the lab’s role in treatment planning and outcome evaluation. This collaborative, data-driven approach maximises the clinical value of every test, supports DRG/DIPs reforms, and contributes to delivering more precise, efficient care as part of the broader Healthy China strategy.
