Assoc Prof Masamitsu Maekawa on therapeutic drug monitoring with clinical mass spectrometry

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is the practice of monitoring therapeutic efficacy and side effects when a patient is undergoing treatment. TDM is especially important in drug therapy regimes where there could be concerns of potential toxic symptoms, drug interactions, or other serious issues.

Assoc Prof Masamitsu Maekawa, Deputy Director in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tohoku University Hospital Japan, is leading the charge with the use of clinical mass spectrometry in TDM. In this talk at the Re-imagining Mass Spectrometry Symposium, Assoc Prof Maekawa details the challenges with multi-drug analysis, as well as how TDM is used across different disease areas at Tohoku University Hospital.
