Dr Brett McWhinney on transforming steroids testing with clinical mass spectrometry

Steroid hormones have historically been measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) but in recent decades, liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) has been the preferred diagnostic method, primarily due to its flexibility in terms of sample preparation.

In his talk at the Re-imagining Mass Spectrometry Symposium, Dr Brett McWhinney, Supervising Chief Scientist at Analytical Chemistry Unit, Pathology Queensland Australia, discusses the challenges in steroids analysis, how to implement LC-MS/MS workflows in the lab, and the future of clinical mass spectrometry in the field of endocrinology.
